From 2021 to 2030, the world's new installed wind power capacity is expected to be close to 1 terawatt

Consulting firm Wood Mackenzie recently stated that between now and 2030, the global wind energy industry may add nearly 1 terawatt (TW) of installed capacity, a large part of which will come from China.

According to the report, China’s goal is to have 1,200 gigawatts of wind and solar energy by 2030, during which 408 gigawatts of new wind energy may be generated, accounting for almost half of the global total.

By 2030, the rest of the Asia-Pacific region may add 126 GW, of which India accounts for half, and Europe’s decarbonization plan may add 248 GW of new wind energy.

According to the report, from 2021 to 2023, the extension of the production tax credit in the United States may bring about 35 GW of new production capacity. From 2024 to the end of 2030, the United States is expected to add an average of 4.5 gigawatts of offshore wind power annually.

Wood Mackenzie revealed in the report that the world's new wind power capacity reached a record 114 gigawatts (GW) in 2020, an increase of 82% year-on-year. China accounts for approximately 72 GW, while the rest of the world has increased by nearly 43 GW in 2020, an increase of 15%.

However, the Global Wind Energy Council report stated that the world needs at least 180 GW of new wind energy each year to limit global warming to a level of 2 degrees Celsius.
