Long glass fiber reinforced nylon composite material replaces aluminum motor housing

    With the goal of replacing cast aluminum, the Avient and Be ttc her team redesigned the support yoke, which can support a motor weighing up to 25 pounds and power various meat cutting tools. The challenge they face is to provide a lighter polymer alternative that can reduce the overall cost of the finished product while maintaining reliable performance in a rigorous use environment. Specifically, the material needs to handle constant weight loads and high vibrations, and can withstand corrosive chemicals.

     A vient believes that its Complet long glass fiber reinforced nylon composite is the right material to achieve the required strength and reinforcement properties. Long-fiber thermoplastic (LFT) is nearly 40% lighter than the cast aluminum material it will replace, and also adds the advantages of injection molding, enabling faster single-step production, thereby reducing costs.
