Research and development of glass fiber applications

Glass fiber is an inorganic non-metallic material with excellent performance, which is used to manufacture reinforced plastics or reinforced rubber. As a reinforcing material, glass fiber has the following characteristics, which make the use of glass fiber far more extensive than other kinds of fibers.

There are many ways to classify glass fibers:

(1) According to the different raw materials selected during production, glass fiber can be divided into alkali free, medium alkali, high alkali and special glass fiber;

(2) According to different fiber appearance, glass fiber can be divided into continuous glass fiber, fixed length glass fiber and glass wool;

(3) According to the difference of monofilament diameter, glass fiber can be divided into superfine fiber (diameter less than 4m), advanced fiber (diameter 3 ~ 10m), intermediate fiber (diameter greater than 20m) and coarse fiber (diameter about 30 ¨ m).

(4) According to different fiber properties, glass fiber can be divided into ordinary glass fiber, strong acid and alkali resistant glass fiber and strong acid resistant glass fiber

At present, countries all over the world are constantly developing and optimizing various new bulletproof materials to enhance the ballistic protection performance of vehicles and individual soldiers. It is the most promising lightweight and high-strength composite material with the fastest development in the market.

The military developed countries represented by the United States pay special attention to the development of high-performance bulletproof fibers and their composites. Defense research institutions such as the U.S. Army Research Laboratory and universities funded by the Ministry of defense have carried out a lot of research work in recent years
